The German Jordanian University hosted through the Social Work Department at the School of Applied Humanities and Languages a workshop with the aim of developing programs in the field of mental health to raise awareness about the issue in Jordan. Experts from His Royal Highness Prince Hassan's office, GIZ, Medecins sans Frontieres/ Doctors without Borders, colleagues from the Social Work Department and students of the MA in Social Work/Migration and Refugees participated in the event. 

 

The Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Reiner Finkeldey, opened the workshop by referencing the unique teaching model at the German Jordanian University and its interest in teaching social work programs, while the Head of the Department of Social Work at the school of Applied Humanities and Languages, Dr. Bader Al-Madi, presented the department and its role in the University as the only department in Social sciences, its current programs and future aspirations to establish more cooperation with experts in the same field, and to develop more new programs, especially those that focus on mental health.

 

In her turn, a faculty member in the Department, Dr. Nada Eltaiba, who specializes in mental health, gave a briefing on the programs that could be established, the target groups, objectives and expected results. At the end of the workshop, a discussion took place during which a set of ideas and suggestions about mental health programs were shared by our esteemed guests.
