Prof Dia Zeidan
I am a Full Professor of Computational and Applied Mathematics at the German Jordanian University (GJU), with an internationally established academic and research career spanning Jordan, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Pakistan, and a broad network of global research institutions. My research interests include mathematical modelling, numerical analysis, computational fluid dynamics, multiphase flow, and advanced computational methods for complex scientific and engineering problems.
I joined the German Jordanian University in February 2014 as an Assistant Professor in the School of Basic Sciences and Humanities. I was promoted to Associate Professor in February 2016 and subsequently attained the rank of Full Professor. Prior to joining GJU, I held academic and research positions at Cranfield University in the United Kingdom, Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan, Al-Balqa Applied University in Jordan, and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS in Malaysia. I obtained my degree in Applied Mathematics from Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan, and completed my PhD in Computational and Applied Mathematics at Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom in 2004. My doctoral thesis, entitled “Mathematical and Numerical Study of Two-Phase Flow Models”, laid the foundation for my subsequent research in mathematical modelling, numerical methods, computational fluid dynamics, and multiphase-flow systems. Throughout my academic career, I have developed a strong international research profile supported by extensive collaborations with researchers, universities, scientific societies, publishers, and research groups across different regions of the world. These collaborations have led to joint research projects, co-authored publications, conference activities, editorial responsibilities, academic exchanges, and the development of multidisciplinary research initiatives.
My multinational academic experience has enabled me to build a diverse and well-established international professional network. I have worked closely with academics and researchers from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and other regions, contributing to the exchange of scientific knowledge and the development of long-term institutional and individual partnerships. I have also served the international academic community through editorial board memberships, peer-review activities, scientific committees, international conferences, fellowships, research supervision, and professional outreach.
As a Full Professor, I am committed to strengthening global research connections, supporting international and cross-disciplinary collaboration, and creating opportunities for students and early-career researchers to engage with leading scholars, institutions, and research communities worldwide. I place particular importance on building bridges between researchers in the Middle East and the wider international scientific community.
At GJU, I continue to contribute to the University’s mission of academic excellence, innovation, internationalization, and societal impact. My goal is to expand strategic research and academic partnerships, promote internationally visible and high-quality scholarship, and support collaborative research that addresses contemporary scientific, engineering, and societal challenges in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Educational Background
Bachelor - Applied Mathematics, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan
My research interests lie at the intersection of computational and applied mathematics, artificial intelligence, numerical analysis, and sustainable scientific computing. My expertise is centred on the mathematical modelling and numerical simulation of nonlinear and hyperbolic partial differential equations governing complex multiphase fluid-flow systems, with applications in energy, water, biomedical modelling, industrial processes, and engineering systems.
Over the course of my academic career, I have developed advanced mathematical and computational tools for the analysis of fluid-flow phenomena, including two-phase and multiphase flows, wave propagation, shock waves, cavitation, porous-media flow, and complex transport processes. These areas are highly relevant to several contemporary scientific and industrial challenges, particularly those related to sustainable energy systems, water-resource management, biomedical applications, environmental protection, and resilient infrastructure.
More recently, my research has expanded toward AI-enabled computational modelling, including the integration of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven approaches with traditional numerical methods. I am particularly interested in how AI can enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and predictive capability of computational fluid dynamics, scientific simulations, and mathematical models for complex physical systems. This includes the development of hybrid frameworks that combine physics-based modelling, numerical schemes, and AI-assisted prediction, optimization, uncertainty quantification, and decision support.
My research aligns strongly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 13: Climate Action. Through mathematical modelling, computational simulation, and AI-supported analysis, my work contributes to improving the understanding of physical, biomedical, environmental, industrial, and engineering systems that are essential for sustainable development, resource efficiency, environmental resilience, technological innovation, public health, and societal impact.
A major strength of my research profile is the ability to conduct high-level research in diverse international and developing-country contexts. I have maintained strong research productivity and international engagement despite challenging academic and institutional environments. This reflects my strong determination to advance scientific knowledge, build sustainable research capacity, and establish mutually beneficial collaborations with researchers, institutions, scientific societies, publishers, and research groups worldwide.
My current and future research direction focuses on developing AI-enhanced computational methods for complex engineering, environmental, and biomedical problems, with particular emphasis on multiphase-flow modelling, computational fluid dynamics, nonlinear wave phenomena, porous-media systems, and sustainable industrial and healthcare-related applications. These research areas have significant potential for international collaboration, external funding, interdisciplinary research projects, and practical impact across academia, industry, and society.
In addition to research, I am committed to training students and early-career researchers in computational and applied mathematics, scientific computing, numerical methods, and AI-supported modelling. My research provides opportunities for students to engage with topics ranging from mathematical formulation and theoretical analysis to algorithm development, numerical implementation, simulation, and real-world applications. I aim to equip students with the mathematical, computational, and analytical skills needed to contribute to emerging research areas and address global challenges through science, innovation, and sustainable development.
