On Saturday, the Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court, Yousef Hassan Al-Issawi, patronized the graduation ceremony for postgraduate students at the German Jordanian University (GJU), the "Wisdom Cohort," held at the university's campus in Jabal Amman, at the home of the martyr Ibrahim Hashem.The ceremony began with the Jordanian Royal Anthem and the German National Anthem, followed by a recitation from the Holy Quran.
Members of the faculty and administrative staff, along with a large gathering of graduates' families, attended the event.
In his address, GJU President Dr. Alaa Al-Halhouli stated that celebrating the graduates in this location, which holds a place of historical significance for Jordan, connects the nation's memory with the aspirations of its youth. He added that graduation imbues it with a meaning linked to knowledge, genuine belonging, and the honor of service. He emphasized the university's commitment to preparing graduates who possess knowledge, are adept at its application, and are prepared to shoulder their responsibilities towards their nation and society.
He noted that the university draws inspiration from the wise leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, characterized by foresight, adherence to principles, prioritizing dialogue, and safeguarding the nation's interests and human dignity. This reinforces the university's mission of building conscious individuals capable of assessing the consequences of their decisions and contributing to their communities.
He explained that the choice of the name "The Wisdom Cohort" reflects the belief that the fruits of knowledge lie in sound understanding, informed choices, and effective action. He emphasized the need for knowledge coupled with insight, the ability to distinguish between reliable information and mere claims, and the connection between progress and human well-being, dignity, and the common good.
Al-Halhouli commended the graduates' perseverance, noting that they pursued their studies and research alongside their professional and family responsibilities. He urged them to make their dissertations and research the beginning of a lasting impact, to uphold academic integrity, to continue learning, to maintain their connection with their university, and to contribute their expertise and ideas to its advancement.
He expressed his appreciation to the faculty, administrative staff, university partners, and the graduates' families for their role in providing a supportive environment for research and excellence and for supporting students throughout their studies.
For his part, Dean of Graduate Studies Dr. Iyad Hamad emphasized that graduate studies go beyond simply acquiring knowledge; they cultivate students' abilities to think critically, analyze, ask questions, and innovate solutions. He noted that graduation marks the beginning of a new phase of responsibility and contribution.
He stated that excellence in a world of rapid technological advancements and the growing role of artificial intelligence demands continuous learning, adaptability, and the courage to innovate. He urged the graduates to utilize their knowledge to serve humanity, society, and the nation, to be agents of change and leaders in driving its course, and to carry the university's message and values to their respective positions in Jordan and abroad.
Graduates Dina Al-Sarayrah and Mohammad Al-Fayoumi also delivered speeches in Arabic and English, respectively, expressing their gratitude to the German Jordanian University and acknowledging the efforts of the faculty, administrative staff, and their families in supporting them throughout their academic journey.
Al- Sarayrah affirmed that the university experience fosters critical thinking, research, and questioning, noting that graduation carries a responsibility that extends beyond obtaining a degree to applying knowledge, making a positive impact, and facing the future with the spirit of a researcher and preparedness for its demands.
For his part, Al-Fayoumi emphasized that the graduates' achievement was the fruit of perseverance and mutual support. He recalled the challenges they faced in balancing academic demands with family and professional responsibilities, and urged his fellow graduates to translate their knowledge into action and accomplishment.
The celebration included a video presentation showcasing milestones in the graduates' academic journey at the university, their study and research experiences, the challenges they overcame, and the impact of this experience on developing their skills, boosting their self-confidence, and shaping their academic and professional aspirations.
