The German Jordanian University (GJU), through the Deanship of Student Affairs, (DSA) organized the Second Graduation Projects Competition 2026 at Jabal Amman Campus, bringing together outstanding student projects that showcase academic excellence, innovation, and practical solutions to contemporary societal and technological challenges.
The event was attended by GJU President Prof. Ala'aldeen Al-Halhouli, Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Farah Al-Atrash, Vice President for Academic Excellence Dr. Eyas Khader, Dr. Ammar Al- Khaldi from Alsharqa university, members of the academic and administrative staff, a distinguished panel of external judges representing various universities and industry sectors, and a large number of GJU students.
The competition featured an impressive range of projects that reflected the University's high academic standards and the students' ability to translate knowledge and research into innovative solutions that address real-world needs while keeping pace with rapid scientific and technological advancements.
In her remarks, Dr. Farah Al-Atrash emphasized that graduation projects represent the culmination of a journey of learning, research, and continuous development. She noted that the true value of a project lies not only in its final outcome, but also in the perseverance, determination, and creativity demonstrated throughout its development.
Dr. Al-Atrash added that the competition is more than a platform for selecting winning projects; it is an opportunity to celebrate innovation, exchange knowledge, and reinforce GJU's belief that promising ideas, when supported by an inspiring academic environment and quality supervision, can evolve into impactful innovations that serve society and contribute to a better future.
For his part, Prof. Al-Halhouli emphasized that graduation projects clearly reflect the students' creativity and their ability to analyze contemporary challenges and propose innovative solutions grounded in knowledge and rigorous scientific research. He noted that the world is currently undergoing rapid transformations driven by the convergence of disciplines and the emergence of advanced technologies—such as Artificial Intelligence, renewable energy, and the Internet of Things—which are reshaping various aspects of life and work. He affirmed that the university's students are not merely keeping pace with these changes, but are actively contributing to shaping their future.
He added that this competition marks the culmination of the university's tireless efforts to foster a culture of innovation, encourage applied research, and provide a stimulating educational environment that adapts to accelerating scientific and technological advancements. He reasserted the university's steadfast commitment to supporting academic and cognitive excellence, viewing it as a fundamental pillar of national development and a source of pride.
At the conclusion of the competition, the winning students were honored. Projects competed across three main categories: Sustainable Solutions and the Built Environment, Scientific Research and Innovation, and AI-Based Smart Solutions and Technologies. The first-place winner in each category received a cash prize of JOD 200, while the second-place winner received JOD 100.
Sustainable Solutions and the Built Environment
The first-place award was presented to Masar Athamnah for her project, "Hamzat Wasl," supervised by Arch. Leen Fakhoury .
The second-place award went to Sadeen Sarrarfor her project "Ruwwad Courtyard," supervised by Arch. Amani Malhas.
Scientific Research and Innovation
The first-place award was presented to Joice Swiessand Bashar Al-Shami for their project "Smart Green Home Automation and Energy Efficiency System Using PLC," supervised by Prof. Raed Musleh.
The second-place award went to Fadi Shahatit and Muhannad Al Qawasmi for their project "Evaluating the Operational Potential and Thermal Limits of High-Performance Electrically Assisted Turbochargers in Mild Hybrid Sport Cars," supervised by Eng. Shorouq Shawish.
AI-Based Smart Solutions and Technologies
The first-place award was shared by Moaz Al-Sayyed for his project "Reinforcement Learning-Based Dynamic Robot Pick-and-Place for the Beverage Industry," supervised by Dr. Sahar Qadan, and Joud Abu Ghanmi for her project "Real-Time Rider Safety Monitoring System Using ESP32 and ML," supervised by Dr. Nadia Al-Rousan.
The second-place award was presented to Tareq Al-Badri, Ahmad Al-Assaf, and Ahmad Al-Rjoub for their project "Smart Green Home Automation and Energy Efficiency System Using PLC," supervised by Eng. Ghaith Bader.
It is worth noting that all participating projects underwent a rigorous evaluation by a select panel of external experts and judges representing various universities and national sectors. The judging committee included: Dr. Raneem Qaddoura (Al-Hussein Technical University), Dr. Lara Al-Shawawreh (Mutah University), Dr. Hanan Al-Mawajdeh (Al al-Bayt University), Dr. Suha Abdo (Al-Hussein Technical University), Dr. Johaina Issawi (Middle East University), Dr. Ahmad Al-Bourini (Jordan Engineers Association), Eng. Nasser Al-Qaaida (King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau - JODDB), Eng. Omar Hijazi (Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship), Eng. Osaid Al-Eitan (Al-Kafu for Project Management & Consultancies), Eng. Nidal Arsheid (Design Concepts for Humanity) and Eng. Dana Obeid (Sukoon Consulting). This distinguished participation further enhanced the transparency and objectivity of the evaluation process, underscoring the university’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and excellence, while aligning educational outcomes with the needs of the community and the job market.
