The German Jordanian University (GJU), through its AgriTech Innovation Hub, in collaboration with the AgriTech Field Lab operated by MIRRA, has launched the pilot phase of the AgriTech Service Line, with support from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) through the GAIN Project.
The pilot phase was launched during an event that brought together farmers, representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and partners from the agricultural innovation ecosystem to discuss challenges facing the agricultural sector and transform them into applicable technological solutions and market-ready business models.
The event focused on bridging the gap between available technologies and farmers’ actual needs by discussing key agricultural challenges in the Jordan Valley, Mafraq, and Azraq, including rising energy costs, water scarcity, and post-harvest losses. Discussions also explored how these challenges could be addressed through locally applicable solutions and business models, alongside the application of circular economy principles to enhance resource efficiency and support a more resilient and sustainable agricultural sector.
As part of the initiative, the AgriTech Innovation Hub at GJU leads the Product Development Track (Track A), which aims to support innovators and companies in the early stages of developing their solutions by providing expertise in engineering design, prototyping, and technical feasibility assessment.
Meanwhile, the AgriTech Field Lab operated by MIRRA leads the On-farm Piloting Track (Track B), providing companies with access to real farms to test their prototypes and collect data on their agricultural and operational performance. This helps further develop solutions that respond to users’ actual needs.
The launch of the AgriTech Service Line is part of GJU’s efforts to promote applied innovation and connect academic knowledge with the needs of productive sectors, while supporting innovators and companies in developing technological solutions with practical impact and potential for market scalability.
The initiative invites legally registered small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Jordan to apply for the available support tracks. Applications will remain open until October 5, 2026.
