The German Jordanian University (GJU) is proud to announce the signing of the contract for the SyrIA – Syrian Innovation in Academia project by the President of GJU, Prof. Ala'aldeen Al-Halhouli, together with Ms. Petra Bogenschneider, Head of Division for Academic Cooperation Programmes in the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Supported by DAAD, the project marks an important step toward the strengthening and modernization of higher education in Syria. It is implemented by GJU in coordination with the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and in cooperation with the University of Hamburg and the German-Syrian Research Society.
SyrIA aims to sustainably strengthen the institutional, academic, and administrative capacities of Syrian higher education institutions through evidence-based needs analysis, practice-oriented training, dialogue formats, mentoring, and the use of digital tools to support quality and long-term impact.
The project runs from March 2026 to December 2027 with a total grant of €800,000.
We look forward to the positive impact this project will have in supporting institutional development, capacity building, and the reconnection of Syrian higher education with international academic networks.
