i. Program Description
Erasmus+ is the European Union’s (EU) funding program for education and training between 2021 and 2027. The Erasmus+ program builds on the achievements of 30 years of European programs in the fields of education, training, and youth. The German Jordanian University has successfully established several partnerships with distinguished Universities all over Europe under the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM). It encourages GJU students to study in Europe. It promotes transnational cooperation projects among Universities across European countries.
The Erasmus+ program provides GJU students with the opportunity to spend one semester at one of our partner universities. The program supports students with a monthly scholarship that covers living expenses (around 800 Euro) for up to five months as well as travel allowance (around 275 Euro). More details about what you can expect from your home University and the receiving University at each step of your mobility, rights and obligations as ERASMUS+ students you will find in the Erasmus Student Charter.
ii. Additional funding for participants with fewer opportunities
Equal opportunities are a central concern in the Erasmus+ program. In order to enable more people with fewer opportunities to participate in the program in the future, the different National Agencies for Erasmus+ University Cooperation have increased the scholarship rates for students, expanded the target groups for receiving additional financial support and simplified access conditions. If you have a disability, chronical illness, child or children, are the first student in your family or working to finance your studies, you can apply for extra funding. Proof or your situation has to be uploaded in the online-application. The decision is made by our European partner Universities. More information under: Erasmus priorities
iii. Who can apply?
All GJU undergraduate students who start their 3rd study year in October 2024/25 (check list of partners below!). All partner universities require proficiency in English. For GJU undergraduate students it is important to have elective courses left for their German Year and that you have more than your graduation project left. Having completed the German year is not required for applicants.
- Students are required to choose from the ERASMUS+ Partner Universities list (see below) a suitable University that offers mobility programs acknowledged by their school. Assistance in the process can be given by the exchange coordinator/officer or dean of each GJU school.
- For the course's recognition, students are asked to contact their exchange coordinators/officers at their schools to discuss the recognition and the equivalency of the potential courses abroad. And before applying! Please fill a preliminary learning agreement (Erasmus+) and upload it in the online-application. It does not have to be signed yet!
- Erasmus+ requests the students to have a workload of a minimum of 18 ECTS (some partners ask for more) for their ERASMUS+ semester abroad unless the partner university has another workload requirement which should be considered. Thus, we advise the students to plan between 25-30 ECTS in case one or two courses are failed. Additionally, the German Year study plan must match as well.
- Read through the Rules and Regulations (see below)!
- The first step is to check the courses for the Erasmus+ study semester. Therefore, please consult with your exchange coordinator/officer or dean about this.
- Under partner Universities (see below in this document) you can browse through all the partner Universities. Mobility offers for the first term 2024/25 start approx. Sep/Oct 2024. You can name a first and second choice for your host University. All partner universities require proficiency in English (min. B1/B2).
- The third step is to prepare your documents. The application needs to include the following documents:
The letter needs to answer all questions:
You apply through MyGju, and upload all your documents there. Please fill in the requested questions carefully and upload the required documents in PDF format (with your name!).

Application deadline is 17th of April 2024. Only complete applications will be considered.
After the deadline the applications will be reviewed by the International Affairs Department. In case there are more eligible applicants than available seats, suitable candidates will be invited for an interview with a GJU selection committee. If other partner Universities offer us more seats during the call we will offer the new seats in the assessment center. The assessment center will probably be in the week between 21.04. - 25.04.2024. The results will be communicated to the candidates by approx. third week of April 2024. After, there will be an appeal phase of 48 hours. Only appeals sent in the phase and to io.queries@gju.edu.jo will be considered. Disclaimer: IAD is executing the selection procedure on best knowledge according GJU regulation and according available mobilities. In case of changes of budget at the side of the partners, proven mistakes from side of IAD, untruthful provided data from students or involved parties, wrong data displayed at MYGJU etc. the scholarship can be withdrawn. Furthermore, it is the right of the partner university to reject the selected candidate.

Rules and Regulations for Erasmus+ Applicants:
Erasmus+ students mobility program description in five facts
1. Erasmus+ is the European Union’s (EU) funding program for education and training between 2021 and 2027. The Erasmus+ program builds on the achievements of 30 years of European programs in the fields of education, training, and youth.

- The applicant can name two (2) preferences for Universities at which s/he wants to study within the framework of the Erasmus+ program.
- Applicants choosing Universities in the application form, are obliged to check the applicable education systems and curriculum (courses) of these Universities before submitting the application!
- The nomination to an Erasmus+ study stay is binding
- After the nomination the student has to prepare the Erasmus+ learning agreement, which meeds to be approved by either the exchange coordinator or the dean of the GJU school of the student.
- The student is obliged to obtain min. 18 ECTS credits per semester to fulfill requirements at his/her home institution. Subjects included in the partner university program shall not significantly differ from the curriculum at the School at GJU. Changes in the learning agreement are accepted during a period up to 4 weeks after the start of the semester at the host university.
- The student must then repay the Erasmus mobility grant (pro rata, if applicable) if she or he have acquired fewer than 18 ECTS per semester while studying abroad and there is no acceptable reason (e.g. certified illness, strike at the partner university). The student must therefore make sure that she or he attends all courses throughout the period of their studies abroad and take the relevant examinations. Thus, we advise to register for more than 18 ECTS in case a class is failed. All regulations of the Erasmus+ program and of the regulations of the respective host universities concerning the program apply. This refers in particular to regulations regarding sanctions if a student does not earn the minimum required ECTS. Sanctions can entail the partial or full repayment of the scholarship to the program.
- Applicants who accepted the scholarship but do not start their Visa application process in time are excluded from the program and other programs.
Cancellation of Erasmus+ students’ mobility
- In case the student has to cancel the nomination for serious reasons (proof needs to be given), s/he must sign a declaration of cancelation and send it without delay via email to scholarship.coordinator@gju.edu.jo and their exchange coordinator/officers/dean.
- The student is also obliged to send an e-mail to the coordinator abroad (with copy to the scholarship coordinator for Erasmus+ mobility) with due explanation why the Erasmus+ mobility is cancelled
- Withdrawal from the nomination may affect future chances to be included into the Erasmus+ program and other scholarship programs (e.g. DAAD)
- If the partner complaints about Erasmus+ applicant with reasonable arguments (e.g. disrespectful behavior, non-respondence etc.), the scholarship can be canceled from partner side and GJU side.
