The Arabic for Specific Purposes (ASP) Program offers specialized language courses in Arabic for Media, Classical Arabic, and Levantine Colloquial Arabic, with each track structured across three progressive levels (I–III), in addition to Applied Arabic Culture, which is offered as a standalone course. Admission to these tracks requires successful completion of Level A2 of the Arabic Core Program (ACP).
The program combines practical language development with the use of authentic materials, specialized vocabulary and terminology, cultural knowledge, and language use in real-life communication contexts. All courses are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards.
All courses in the program, with the exception of Applied Arabic Culture, carry 3 credit hours (approximately 5 ECTS) and comprise 48 contact hours, with a total student workload ranging from 100–150 hours, including in-class instruction and independent learning activities. Applied Arabic Culture carries 6 credit hours (approximately 10 ECTS) and comprises 96 contact hours, with a total student workload ranging from 200–300 hours.
The program is offered in two formats: regular semester and intensive. In the regular semester format, courses are delivered over 16 weeks, at a rate of 3 contact hours per week, while the intensive format is delivered over two weeks, at 24 contact hours per week. Applied Arabic Culture follows a distinct structure: in the regular semester format, it is delivered over 16 weeks, at 6 contact hours per week, while in the intensive format, it is delivered over four weeks, at 24 contact hours per week.
Courses are available onsite at the German Jordanian University (GJU) or online, and may be offered in group or individual formats, providing learners with flexible study options tailored to their needs and learning objectives.
