Prof. Hisham ElMoaqet
Prof. Hisham ElMoaqet is a Professor of Mechatronics and Artificial Intelligence Engineering at the German Jordanian University. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics) from the University of Michigan in 2015. He subsequently completed interdisciplinary postdoctoral research in anesthesiology and mechanical engineering at the same institution, contributing to the development of advanced engineering solutions for healthcare applications.
Prof. ElMoaqet’s research is centered at the intersection of mechatronics, artificial intelligence in healthcare, robotics, and digital transformation across both biomedical and industrial domains. His work emphasizes the design and development of intelligent, data-driven systems that integrate engineering methodologies with real-world applications, including physiological signal processing and smart and digital industry systems. He has established a strong record of scholarly productivity through high-impact, peer-reviewed publications and maintains active international collaborations with leading institutions in the United States and Europe.
He has held competitive visiting research appointments in Germany, including at Humboldt University of Berlin, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and Furtwangen University, contributing to internationally recognized research initiatives and strengthening cross-institutional partnerships. He is the Founding Director of the Industry 4.0 Lab at the German Jordanian University, where he leads strategic initiatives in digital transformation, smart manufacturing, and academia–industry collaboration.
Prof. ElMoaqet has demonstrated sustained leadership and professional service at both regional and international levels. Since 2025, he has served as the Middle East and Africa Representative on the Administrative Committee of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS). He is the Chair of the IEEE Jordan Section EMBS Chapter, which was awarded the 2024 Best Regional Chapter distinction in recognition of its outstanding activities and impact. In addition, he serves as Counselor of the IEEE GJU Student Branch, which received the 2025 IEEE Regional Exemplary Student Branch Award under his mentorship. He is also an active member of the EMBS Cardiopulmonary Systems and Physiology Engineering (CSPE) Technical Committee and serves on the editorial board of the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics (IEEE-JBHI) as an Associate Editor.
Complementing his academic career, Prof. ElMoaqet brings substantial industrial experience in the oil and gas and petrochemical sectors. He has served as a Control, Instrumentation, and Automation Engineer at major industrial organizations, including Albemarle Corporation (USA) and Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company. His technical expertise encompasses Networked and Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and digital transformation within the framework of Industry 4.0. His contributions include the design, implementation, and optimization of advanced automation and control systems in complex industrial environments.
Through his integrated academic, industrial, and professional contributions, Prof. ElMoaqet demonstrates a sustained commitment to advancing engineering innovation, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and driving impactful solutions in healthcare and industry.
